Quinn XCII is taking center stage. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter first garnered attention for his unique sound— a blend of hip-hop, pop and soul—back in 2015 with his debut EP Changes of Scenery. Since then, he’s come out with a follow-up EP titled Bloom, as well as a two albums, The Story of Us in 2017, and, most recently, From Michigan With Love, in February 2019, as well as collaborations that have etched his name into the spotlight.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Quinn XCII was raised amongst the beats of Motown and was inspired by other Detroit-based artists who came before him, such as Big Sean and Mike Posner. Though he started making music in high school, it wasn’t until college that he began to share his music with those around him. Quinn XCII solidified his choice to pursue music when, fresh out of college, he traded in his desk job for a life on the road.
Quinn XCII fans cite his relatable themes of past relationships, heartbreak, vulnerability, and honesty as reasons to love his music. In his latest work, From Michigan With Love, he discusses mental health with tracks touching on his own struggles with anxiety and depression spanning his days in Detroit to his current life in LA.
In the next few months, Quinn XCII is bringing his sound across the globe with an international tour. But first, he stopped by the Aaptiv offices to talk about how he gets in the zone and warms up before a show, as well as giving us the scoop on the songs he uses for motivation.
