When it comes to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), an outdoor bootcamp workout is hard to beat! The fresh air, cool location, and challenging exercises, can really boost your fitness routine and help you connect with your community.

Benefits of an Outdoor Bootcamp Workout

An outdoor bootcamp provides numerous benefits, including a natural setting that enhances the workout, a combination of cardio, strength, HIIT and flexibility exercises for a well-rounded workout, and a supportive, motivating environment where participants encourage each other. It can be suitable for all fitness levels with modifications and offers a refreshing break from indoor gyms.

Here are some exercises to include in your outdoor bootcamp:

1. Sprints

Start with a few rounds of sprints to get your heart rate up. Find a flat, straight path and sprint for 20-30 seconds, followed by a 30-second rest. Repeat this for 5-10 rounds.

2. Burpees

This full-body exercise is a staple in any HIIT routine. Start in a standing position, drop into a squat with your hands on the ground, kick your feet back into a plank, perform a push-up, return your feet to the squat position, and explosively jump up.

3. Mountain Climbers

Get into a plank position and bring your knees to your chest alternately as quickly as possible. Aim for 30-60 seconds of intense mountain climbers.

4. Box Jumps

Find a sturdy bench or a flat surface and jump onto it from a standing position. To modify this  This exercise is excellent for building explosive power and strength.

5. Walking Lunges

Perform lunges while you walk forward. This engages your lower body muscles and improves balance and coordination. For added intensity, hold a weight in each hand.

6. Push-Ups

A classic upper body exercise that can be modified for all fitness levels. Perform them on a flat surface, or use a bench or rock for an incline variation. Find more push-up variations here.

7. Plank Rows

In a high plank position, row one hand up towards your hip, then alternate. This exercise will challenge your core and upper body simultaneously.

8. Jump Squats

Perform a regular squat, but as you come up, jump as high as you can. This plyometric move will get your heart rate soaring.

9. Bear Crawls

Crawl forward on your hands and feet, maintaining a low position with your core engaged. This full-body move targets multiple muscle groups and improves agility.

Don’t forget to start with a dynamic warm-up and finish with stretching to prevent injuries. Remember to go at your own pace. This fun workout routine is designed to switch up your gym sessions and let you enjoy the outdoors! By incorporating these exercises into your outdoor bootcamp, you’ll benefit from a well-rounded, high-intensity session that pushes your limits.
